The Arab world in Revolution(s)

Khalil about Mohammed Morsi’s coup

17 August

In partnership with Cartooning for Peace, once a week ARTE is publishing a press cartoon on events unfolding in the Arab world by illustrators involved in the various countries, but also by western cartoonists. This week: Khalil Abu Arafeh (Palestine).

Read the cartoon of this week from right to left.

Khalil Abu Arafeh is a supporter of peaceful resistance. He was born in Jerusalem and studied architecture in Ukraine. While pursuing a dual career as an architect and political cartoonist, his drawings have been published especially in the daily Al Quds since 1994. He was also the chief scriptwriter of the children’s television programme Sesame Street. In 1996, Khalil received the Ghassan Kanafani Award. Like his friend Bukhari, Khalil is strongly criticised by the Palestinian Hamas.
