Gado and Morsi’s imposed decree
In partnership with Cartooning for Peace, once a week ARTE is publishing a press cartoon on events unfolding in the Arab world by illustrators involved in the various countries, but also by western cartoonists. This week: Gado (Tanzania).
Gado (Godfrey Amon Mwampwemba) was born in 1969 in Tanzania. He started producing caricatures at 15 before becoming a freelancer for the Daily News, Business Times and The Express. In 1992, he worked for the Nation Media Group and published his cartoons in the Daily Nation, the largest newspaper in Eastern and Central Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya. In 1999, Gado was elected Kenyan cartoonist of the year.
